What is ayurveda?
ayurveda is the ancient art of maintaining health & balance
ayus = life veda = sacred knowledge
Ayurveda is based on the premise that living well and in balance with your immediate environment improves physical, emotional and mental wellbeing.
The main guiding principle of ayurveda is that the body and the mind are inextricably connected, our body is a print out of our mind or our state of consciousness.
Ayurveda understands the world in energetic terms and seeks to balance the three basic energies in the body and the mind. These three energies are know as doshas, and each individual has their own unique presentation of these doshas.
Each of us has an intrinsic state of balance, our prakriti. This is our true and deep nature and it is unchanging.
Our current state of being is referred to as vikriti. Our vikriti is impacted through internal and external influencers, it is dynamic and influenced by lifestyle choices such as diet, exercise and our physical environment.
We are in a state of balance when our vikriti is the same as our prakriti, and this is the state we work towards. It is however, a constant work in progress, year to year, month to month and even day to day.
